Peewink Mountain Fire - Sept. 17, 2010

Sept. 17- 7:40 p.m. - Peewink Mountain Fire is under control; no additional posts expected tonight

Firefighters on the ground report that the Peewink Mountain fire is under control. No additional posts about the Peewink Mountain Fire will be made tonight unless conditions change for the worse. The fire is expected to be fully contained by 9 p.m. No structures were impacted, all evacuations have been lifted and all roads have re-opened for residents to return home. The U.S. Forest Service has command of the fire. The Boulder Emergency Operations Center was deactivated at 7:45 p.m.

 
Sept. 17 - 7 p.m. - Evacuations are lifted for Peewink Mountain Fire

Fire is 60% contained, and is expected to be fully contained by 9 p.m. tonight.

 

At 7 p.m., evacuations were lifted and roads were re-opened for all residents to return to their homes.

 

The following resources were deployed this evening:

  • Two Type 1 hot shot teams
  • Approximately 80 firefighters
  • Air support - one heavy air tanker, one single engine air tanker, 1 heavy helicopter

 

 
Sept. 17 - 6:40 p.m. - Peewink Mountain Fire is now 60% contained
Fire is 60% contained. The area of the active fire has been reduced to 2-3 acres.
 
Sept. 17 - 6: 15 p.m. - Evacuated areas

Perimeter of the evacuation Area as of 6:00 PM

  • Sugarloaf Rd. to Switzerland Park Rd.
  • East to Boulder Canyon
  • Boulder Canyon west to Peak to Peak Highway
  • Peak to Peak North to Sugarloaf Road

 

Residents outside of this perimeter do not need to evacuate but should stay tuned to local news and this website.

Sept. 17 - 6:05 p.m. - Peewink Fire estimated at 50% contained
The fire which has grown to approximately 10 acres is reported to be 50% contained as of 6 p.m.
 
5:33 - Sept. 17 - Roads closed as a result of Peewink Mountain Fire

Roads that are closed as a result of the Peewink Mountain Fire include:

  • Ridge Rd. at Hwy 72
  • Cold Springs
  • Summer Access Rd. at SH 119 (Boulder Canyon Dr.) MM 32

5:30 p.m. - Sept. 17 - Peewink Mountain Fire

A 2-acre fire in the vicinity of Switzerland Trail Rd. and Sugarloaf was reported around 5 p.m. The fire includes burning tree tops. Areas that have been evacuated through a reverse citizen notification message include: Cold Springs, Ridge Road, and the San Anton mountain subdivisions. An evacuation center has been opened at the Nederland Community Center on 750 Hwy. 72. The distance of the fire is approximately 3.5 miles NE of the Town of Nederland. Air support firefighting equipment is on the way to the fire location.

 
5:15 p.m - Sept. 17 - Fire reported in Sugarloaf/Switzerland Park area
The Emergency Operations Center is re-activating as a result of a reported fire in the Sugarloaf/Switzerland Park area. More information will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.
