1:50 p.m. 10/29 Update from Boulder Community Hospital

Boulder Community Hospital has closed our Mapleton Center for Rehabilitation and Maxwell Building at 11:30 am since they are within the fire evacuation zone. This has only impacted outpatient physical therapy services, which have been canceled. All employees and patients were safely evacuated from those locations.

Since our hospitals at Broadway and Balsam and Foothills and Arapahoe are not in that zone, they remain open. We are still accepting ambulances at both locations but are encouraging emergency responders to send ambulances with patients from outside Boulder city limits to other hospitals.

The medical director of ICU has stated there are no long-term respiratory concerns for our staff or patients at this point, but if a patient is feeling symptoms related to the smoke, staff will provide supportive care, such as oxygen, or the patient can be transferred to Foothills Hospital.

We have contacted patients scheduled for elective procedures in our Cath Lab, Surgery and Imaging areas at our Broadway location and recommended that they cancel their procedures. However, we are still providing minor procedures for people who elect not to cancel them.

We are also working with our physicians to shift other elective procedures to Foothills, since that campus has not been impacted as much by the smoke.

In a related move, the outpatient Boulder Surgery Center located at 1136 Alpine Ave, Suite 115, closed today at approximately 11:30 am. All surgeries scheduled there have been cancelled.
