10/31 6 p.m. - Dome Fire status

Last night (Saturday, Oct. 30), a cold front moved through the area bringing with it gusting winds. At approx. 9:15 p.m., firefighters responded to an area west of the Knollwood Subdivision on a report of trees on fire. The gusting winds blew embers beyond the fire perimeter creating a flare up. The firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, limiting it to approximately 12-15 trees.

At this time, the perimeter of the fire has not grown and containment of the fire remains at 70%. Today, approximately 150 firefighters continued with their efforts to suppress the fire with the assistance of a helicopter that made approximately 12 water drops. The remaining 30% of the perimeter is steep and mountainous terrain making it difficult for firefighters to access.

Tonight, firefighters will remain on-scene throughout the night to patrol the fire perimeter for hot spots, but crews are not expected to actively fight the fire.

On Friday at approx. 8:10 a.m., Boulder County Sheriff's deputies and firefighters with the Four Mile Fire Protection District were dispatched to Boulder Canyon on a wildfire. It was determined the actual number of acres burned over the last three days was 84 acres. This measurement was obtained using GPS measurements that were obtained by walking the perimeter of the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but it is most likely the result of human activity in the area. The investigation is continuing.
