Fire behavior:
- Smoke cleared enough today to enable firefighers to walk the perimeter and measure the size of the fire; the fire's footprint has been reduced to 60 acres
- Still 40% containment
- 200 people working fire, crews will be treating hot spots overnight
- Weather tomorrow – high temps, low humidity will increase fire activity in the interior
- Expecting a lot of heat on the north side and interior, will likely cause flare-ups within the interior of the fire on Tuesday
- Residents will probably see new fire and smoke activity tomorrow; this is expected.
- Crews feel confident about the containment lines they've built; the fire will be allowed to burn out within the interior as needed
- There are 2 helicopters and 2 Single Engine Air Tankers in reserve, if needed
- Firefighters are encountering multiple safety hazards in the area, including rough and steep terrain, fallen tree snags, and loose and falling rocks
- Road closures will remain in effect to allow for uninterrupted fire operations and to protect the the safety of firefighters
Road closure information:
- Lefthand Canyon Dr. will remain closed from Olde Stage Rd. to James Canyon Dr. Tuesday to allow firefighters to work unimpeded on the fire
- Lower Lefthand Canyon Dr. will open to all traffic from U.S. 36/N. Foothills Highway to Olde Stage Rd. tonight after heavy equipment is moved out of the area
