Stay safe while recreating on open space

Getting outside for fresh air and exercise is recommended by Boulder County Public Health at this time, but precautions are necessary. It’s important to follow careful guidelines as increasing numbers of community members are visiting open space trails:

  • DON’T visit if you’re sick! Stay home and help protect others.
  • Plan your visit carefully, know your limits when visiting trails and follow all rules and regulations. Don’t put first responders and medical personnel at risk. Call 911 for emergencies.
  • If a parking area is full, move on to another park or trailhead.
  • Maintain social distance from others. Follow CDC guidelines on social distancing and stay at least six feet away from others.
  • Practice strong hygienic measures. Wash your hands and use hand sanitizer before, during and after you visit or use any public equipment. Parents should help their children do this as well. Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing. Don’t forget to frequently clean and disinfect any shared hiking, climbing or sporting equipment.
  • Pick up after your dogs. Bring bags to pick up waste and if trash bins are at capacity, please take bags with you.
  • Be courteous. Please take your trash with you and “Leave No Trace” of your visit.
  • Stay on the trail. If you need to maintain social distance while accessing trails, step off the trail and allow others to pass.
  • Announce your presence to others. Be sure to signal your presence with your voice or a bell when passing others to help maintain social distance.
  • Don’t organize large group gatherings.
  • Be prepared. Be sure to visit the restroom and pack water and food before visiting.
